DEVIN TOWNSEND: A New Reign
Interviews

Words by Rahul Menon

One of the most glorious personalities in the heavy music category is Devin Townsend. Known for his excellent musical abilities, live shows, production, personality and so on - he is a legend. Everybody wants a piece of him. To put things into perspective - he launched a crowd funding campaign to release an album (Casualties of Cool), and he raised 546% of his target. Yup, 546%. I could go on writing about him, but to make things easier, just visit his Wikipedia page.

He is coming to Australia in October as a part of guitar clinics he is doing and I got the opportunity to have a chat with him and we talked about his upcoming album, his working patterns, live shows and what we can expect from the clinics he is doing. He was an absolute pleasure to chat to, really easy going, friendly and he loves to talk!

CANNIBAL CORPSE/HOUR OF PENANCE: Metro Theatre, Sydney, AUS, 11 Sep 2014
Concert Reviews

Words by Rahul Menon

One of the best and biggest death metal bands on the planet returned to Australian shores once again, bringing along with them one of the best younger death metal bands on the planet! The mighty Cannibal Corpse and Hour of Penance returned to Australia, and I was fortunate enough to witness this skull-crushing gig at The Metro Theatre in Sydney.

SEPULTURA: Grooves, Pits, and Smiles
Interviews

Words by Rahul Menon

One of the biggest and most enduring names in the heavy metal world is Sepultura. Hailing from Brazil, this band has quite the history, and the best part is that they are still going strong. They're now back with their 13th studio album titled The Mediator Between Head and Hands Must Be The Heart and are set to tour Australia next month.

I had the opportunity to chat with guitarist Andreas Kisser about the the new album, band life, and the upcoming Australian tour.

TRIVIUM/IN FLAMES: 2014 Australian Tour Announced
News

With a swag of awards and sold out stadium tours across the globe left in their wake, TRIVIUM will be returning to Australia this November with very special guests IN FLAMES.

Widely tipped for greatness (some prophecies come true!) after their successful sophomore release, ‘Ascendancy’ in 2005, Kerrang! declared it “the most skull-peeling collection of pulverising metal grooves and fretboard annihilation you'll hear in a long time.” Four studio albums later, TRIVIUM are continuing their climb towards metal greatness with the release of their new album, ‘Vengeance Falls’. “Drawing together crunchy riffs, snarling vitriol, blistering shred-fests and stadium sized choruses it ticks all the boxes.” – Alternative Press

IN FLAMES has proven to be an unstoppable force in heavy music and have proven time and time again that they refuse to stand still. From the first opus in 1994 entitled ”Lunar Strain” to their new album ”Siren Charms”, the Swedish forefathers of Death Metal has risen to great heights in music history. They continue to take risks, push boundaries and challenge themselves and sees them “taking their game several steps forward, leaving both imitators and naysayers far behind.”

It’s rare when two heavyweights of metal tour together…and it’s now Australia’s turn to see TRIVIUM and IN FLAMES performing full headline sets encompassing their entire career.

Tickets on sale Thursday 18 September, 9am local time and with no extra shows planned you have been warned!

TORCHE: Shine on My Old Ways
Interviews

Words by Rahul Menon

Torche are a young stoner/sludge band from Florida, USA, and are quickly gaining popularity. With just three albums under their belt, they have become crowd favourites at a lot of festivals and tours, and it is no surprise that they are already making their first visit to Australia next month. What makes them unique, at least to me, is that they have an extremely heavy sound but their music isn't necessarily violent or angry. In fact, whenever I listen to their latest album Harmonicraft (2012), I always have a big smile on my face.

I had the opportunity to have a quick chat with bassist Jonathan Nuñez, about the band, the upcoming album, and their first visit to Australia.
